First, you must understand that no heat affected zone does not mean no heat at all. However, waterjet cutting does not create a heat affected zone. The pressurized water would become steam if it were going to be hot, but its temperature is stable, capable of carrying the abrasive to cut through materials.
The temperature of the cutting machine’s water is stable because the reservoir is huge enough. The continuous supply of stable-temperature water that is applied to the metal being cut would regulate the material’s temperature even with the heat created by the abrasive cutting action and the pressurizing of the water. After the material is cut, you can still feel by the touch that the waterjet cutting area is a little bit warm.
That being said, a waterjet part could still become warm to the touch after being cut.

What is Heat Affected Zone?
Other cutting method such as thermal and mechanical cutting processes can produce substantial heat, which causes some chemical and mechanical changes to the metal being cut. The heat-generating process that is localized or concentrated in one area where it is cut creates what is known as the heat affected zone. A waterjet cutter, on the other hand will not do this.
